My Students
"If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." - Ignacio Estrada. Children enjoy learning through the use of technology. Technology is changing the way we teach and also gives children another avenue to learn.
A class iPad will give my students the opportunity to learn in a way that excites them and reaches their learning needs.
I am a 2nd grade teacher in a self-contained special education classroom in the New York City Public School system.
My school is in a low-income high needs area. My students are hard-working, eager second graders who try their best to be successful in the classroom. They come to school with an open mind ready to learn. My class is a 12:1:1 special education class with over half my student population being classified as English Language Learners. They come from struggling socioeconomic backgrounds and don't have the means to access technology on a daily basis.
My Project
I am asking for an iPad Air and a protective case. It is important for students to have access to technology while learning. Children find learning while using technology engaging and fun. They need experience with technology to learn skills to be prepared for their future. By integrating new technology into our classroom, my students will be able to learn 21st century skills they need to be successful. It will also give my students. The opportunity to use a variety of educational apps throughout the day. These apps will be used during literacy and math to support each child's learning needs. The iPad apps and games will be used by students to reinforce skills learned and skills not yet mastered. The iPad will provide independent learning experiences for students. The iPad will be used as a tool to engage students and differentiate learning for all.
