This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher to the visually impaired. I teach students that are blind or visually impaired. One common problem we have is accessing textbooks and reading books. Books in braille and large print are not always readily available. An iPad would help promote literacy in my classroom.

My students are inspiring.

They are all legally blind or visually impaired (low vision). They are in general education classes and complete the same assignments as their sighted peers. My students are driven to succeed, several of my high school students are in AP classes and AVID. My goal is to teach my students how to access technology so they will be able to be successful in college and the workforce after they graduate.

My Project

With your help, I will be able to teach my students with visual impairments how to access online audiobooks and large print texts. Apple's accessibility features are top of the line so I'd like to empower my students by teaching them how to access online resources by using Zoom and Voiceover. Your donation will help students with visual impairments develop the technology skills to become successful and independent in school and the workplace. Students that are blind need to learn how to use technology to access their textbooks and other Internet resources as they will rely on this technology in other aspects of their lives (shopping, orientation & mobility, socializing, etc.).
