Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a new librarian at a Title One school. The kindergartners and first graders at my school have limited access to new technology. The boys and girls at my school are excited about visiting the library where they get to explore great books; traditional ones and eBooks.
Our school is home to over 700 students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds. Some of our families face a daily struggle just to provide their family's basic needs. Every time the children enter the school library, I want them to be excited to learn about new books and technology they will encounter in the library. As a first year school librarian, I am very excited to have the opportunity to bring many positive library experiences to our school.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad to be use in the library. Students will be able to read eBooks that the school has already purchased such as TumbleBooks. Students can also use the iPad to access digital resources that are currently funded through our school district like National Geographic for Kids and Britannica School. With the iPad, students will also be able to view book trailers created by other students and learn what it takes to create their own book trailers.
By viewing book trailers created by others, students will become excited about reading.
By learning to create their own book trailers, they will become more engaged. They will have to read the book, summarize the story without giving away the ending, and record their summaries using the iPad to get other students interested in reading the book.
