Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The school I work in is considered a high-needs, low-income school with 85% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. Located in the East Village of Manhattan, New York, each student from my class comes from very diverse backgrounds. My classroom is part of the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) services offered to students who need them. As educators, we know that students learn in many different ways, and it benefits them to learn visually. Unfortunately, our school cannot provide classrooms with all the supports and technologies needed in order for students to learn in a variety of different ways. The students in my class are some of the most hard-working children I have ever had the chance to meet. Many of them come from difficult backgrounds, where tools and technology are greatly limited.
Providing students with the tools they need to succeed is my major goal for the school-year.
Our school funding is limited, and we really appreciate all the support we can get!
My Project
The students in my fourth grade ASD NEST classroom are some of the most hard-working, interesting, and unique students I have ever had the chance to know, teach, and love. Each day, they teach my co-teacher and I something new. They are all incredibly gifted, and they inspire me to be the best teacher I can be, for them. Unfortunately, we don't always have the most current technological resources to use in our classroom, when we need them.
Our world is constantly changing, and constantly making strides in the use of new technology across a multitude of areas.
I want to give my students easy access to this technology by requesting resources that I believe could really impact their learning. With the use of a new iPad and the Apple Pencil, I believe I can make a difference in their learning. First and foremost, I can create new, vivid, interactive lesson plans that I can project on the board. I can leave spaces for students to take ownership of their skills, and show their classmates what they are learning. I can download educational apps and resources that will make it easier for students to learn.
I believe that the integration of technological skills at a young age could make all the difference in a child's life. By giving them easy access to these tools while they are still in school, I know that I can give my students, especially my NEST students, new ways to succeed.
