Help me give my students access to technology within the classroom. This iPad will be used for assessments as well as ensuring students know how to use tech tools if we transition to fully remote learning again.

My Students
My self contained classroom is made up of learners with disabilities in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. Our students need visuals, interactive methods of teaching, and small group support and technology to be successful.
My students are creative, animated, and above all, love learning.
They show an eagerness and excitement for acquiring new skills and have grown in countless ways, both academically and socially. I've been lucky enough to see that students have gained confidence and are ready to take on new challenges and risks thanks to the support of our donors!
Our Title 1 New York City public school is in Queens. More than half of our students are classified as ENL learners and they receive services such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, and counseling.
My Project
When COVID-19 hit our schools, our number one priority (other than safety) was ensuring all students had adequate technology at home to support them when we couldn’t be face to face. That meant giving away almost all devices in the school to families. We currently have only four iPads left on school grounds. Our graduating fifth graders are taking their devices with them as they go on to middle school. Over half of our students will not be returning to in-person learning because their families have opted them out - they will be keeping their devices at home. And the students who will be returning to school will not be bringing their devices back and forth as my students are in 3rd and 4th grade. It would be dangerous and heavy for them to be carrying expensive technology back and forth to school. Also, many of our assessments are conducted on computers so it is essential to provide technology to the students who need it most. By having access to this technology, my students will benefit tremendously. Access to technology allows for greater independence for my student's thanks to assistive tech and apps. I plan on using this iPad during writing time as a center so that students can use speech to text.
In the 21st century and especially during the pandemic, technology is crucial to student learning.
As we anticipate another potential school closure, returning to school means making sure students can be successful in navigating technology independently.
New York City Public School teachers are not receiving any money for classroom resources and supplies this coming school year. Now more than ever, we need additional resources to support our students. Please help me, help my students, by donating to this proposal.
