My students need an Ipad to help them with learning and communication. They have moderate to severe special needs and this Ipad and cover will help them engage in learning.
I have the most wonderful students who are eager to learn. However, they struggle with learning on a daily basis. Paper/pencil tasks are not easy for them and communication is difficult for them. The technology the Ipad provides is an amazing tool for my students to be able to use daily.
My students are hardworking and love to learn new things.
Unfortunately, learning in a traditional way is very difficult for them due to their moderate to severe disabilities. They struggle with basic communication, writing, reading, all basic academic skills and basic social skills. However, once you see that spark in their eye when they finally understand and are excited about what they are learning it is a priceless gift. My students can learn anything, they just learn differently and take longer to understand the topic being taught.
My Project
The Ipad is such a versatile tool. My students will be able to use it to help them learn new topics by using the numerous educational applications that are out there for the Ipad. It will also help them to communicate easier with each other and their non-disabled peers using applications like proloquo to go and other applications similar to that. The Ipad has built in technology adaptations to help my students access their learning environment. I can use it to help with the students state testing requirements. The biggest thing I would like to use it for is helping them with writing requirements. They have to write an auto-biography and biography during the school year as well as many other writing requirements. By setting the Ipad up as a learning station they will each be able to have time each day to work on their writing.
The possibilities are endless as to what this versatile tool can do to help my students engage in learning and communication.
If I had the money I would buy each of my students their very own. Just one Ipad in the classroom will make such a difference to my students though. I just want to thank you for considering this project. I know my students will be so excited to start school this year with an Ipad learning station to help them with their writing.
