Help me give my students an iPad as an SEL tool which will help me to work with students to ensure that they are strengthening their social-emotional skills while being the best students they can be!
My students are Pre-K to Eighth-grade students in an inner-city school in the Southside of Chicago. Our school student population is diverse but despite background differences, we have multiple things in common and have been able to develop a supportive community to attain our school mission and vision. We are one big team that includes students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other school staff.
As the school social worker, it is my role to help our students learn and develop social-emotional skills that will help them cope with the difficulties they may be experiencing.
Sadly, some of our students have experienced traumatic events. Helping them verbalize and process their emotions related to their experience is often a difficult task. Sometimes this is hard for them to do so I try my best by giving them a way to learn social skills differently with technology.
My Project
An iPad will support student learning and engagement while working in individual and small group sessions. This iPad will allow me to let students view SEL videos and lessons and use online calming tools and games.

Despite the hardships and challenges that my students face, they are amazing children. They have shown great resilience, are eager to learn and succeed, and enjoy SEL activities. Social Workers rely on several tools and approaches to addressing social-emotional learning in the most effective and engaging way possible.
