Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad to use during recess, rainy days, and even snowy days. I teach two classes, and one of them is an ESL class; the majority of the class is learning to read and write in English.
In the past, I have taken it upon myself to purchase, with my own money, various educational apps such as Brainpop, Cool Math Games, and Starfall, which teach reading, literacy, and math in a fun way.
I presently serve 56 students daily. I have two iPads that are primarily used by my fifth graders. With the addition of an iPad, students would work in groups of three to four to practice and master basic math and reading skills independently.
With the donation of an Apple iPad, my students will be given the opportunity to learn in a fun and exciting way.
Many of my students do not have access to a computer nor internet services, or an iPad in their homes. During my parent and student workshops, I will demonstrate the many possibilities that an iPad can be used for. Parents, especially those whose first language is not English, will learn about the various educational uses that an iPad has to offer as a fun and educational tool. Students can go on myOWN, which is an educational website where they can practice their reading. There are just so many resources available for my students, we are just in great need of the tools.
