iPad for Evaluation, Multimedia, and Student Engagement

My students need an iPad that they can use independently, an adapter to hook it up to the smartboard, and a means of protecting it from drops, spills, and accidents.

My Students

Do you remember how excited you were when you found a fun way to learn? Students love to learn on the computer, but PCs are too complicated and will take away time from their activities. I want to offer my students an iPad that they can use for enrichment, or that can be used during lessons.

My students are 2nd graders in a New York City public school.

They are in a dual-language program where they are learning in both French and English. Half of the students speak English at home, and half of the students speak French at home, but in school they each spend half the day in each language.

My Project

An iPad and case will provide fun, visual, and engaging ways for my students to learn math and reading concepts, as well as their second language. During the lesson, students will be able to use apps and web sites independently in order to illustrate and demonstrate the concepts we are learning. Their peers will be able to watch them work on our smartboard. After lessons, students may do enrichment work on the iPad, in order to target their learning needs. They can play educational games, watch educational videos, or listen to educational recordings, all without needing adult help. Also, I could assign computerized assessments during class time in order to target student needs. A quick set of math questions will produce a spreadsheet that will tell me if a student needs more work in place value, for example.

This iPad is a chance to give kids something that will be both fun and educationally useful.

It will serve to keep students engaged and learning, and it will ensure that I can find new and interesting ways to help each student learn what they need in order to succeed.
