My Project
I am a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained kindergarten/1st grade classroom. My students have a range of cognitive, physical, fine motor, communication, and social support needs.
A classroom iPad would allow for me to provide targeted academic interventions, as well as model augmentative and alternative (AAC) programs used by some of my students.
There are a wide variety of evidence-based learning applications that would support my students in learning readiness and academic skills, including letter formation, 1:1 correspondence, letter sounds, and phonological awareness. Because the iPad is easy to use for students with fine-motor challenges, and it allows me to lock the iPad on an app the student is using, it will be a valuable tool in my classroom!
In addition to using the iPad for educational interventions, I also plan to use the iPad to model the AAC programs that my students use. Modeling is critical part of teaching my students how to communicate with their AAC devices.
