My students need 6 iPads. They have limited access to technology both at home and at school. Having a few iPads in the classroom would bridge this technological divide.
We start our days with a morning meeting to better understand each other and to foster respect for our differences. Our classroom is a place of community and support. We believe in working hard and challenging ourselves.
Our community has a very diverse set of learners and my classroom reflects this.
My students are eager to learn and quickly accumulate knowledge. We spend our days working through rigorous reading, writing, and math problems, but do not allow this to diminish our interpersonal learnings and commitments to bettering ourselves.
My Project
My students need access to technology in the classroom. With a set of iPads, we will explore, learn, and discover with 21st century materials. Many of my students do not have technology at home. This highlights the importance of having technology in the classroom.
Having an iPad cart in the classroom will enable my students to interact with technology in new ways. They will be able to engage in research to back up their ideas and support their thoughts with evidence. For example, we are in the middle of a biography unit and it would be so exciting if they could supplement what they are learning in the books with resources from the web. If they finish early during math, they can practice math skills on jiji or star fall. It would be possible to have them practicing word work in new and interactive ways through a number of internet sites. They will learn to navigate the web and how to interact with technology all while reinforcing current units of study.
As it is, my school has very limited technology resources.
Adding iPads to their daily interactions will vastly increase their technological understanding and capabilities, giving them a more comprehensive lens of the world.
