My students need a iPad to use as a communication device. In my school for autism, we use an app called Proloquo2Go to communicate and enhance our instruction.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are residents in a low income district and they have learning disabilities due to autism. I believe that my students are more than capable to learn in their own ways. I am servicing 25 autistic students and they are ELLs so they need a lot of visual support through technology.

My student are autistic ELLs in a low income district.

They reside with parents who don't speak English and don't get much support as they needed. Some of their parents can't help them with homework. On top of everything, they struggle to survive a day by day in a new country. Thus, I feel that I am obligated to provide the best instruction to nourish their needs but the resources are limited. Among my students, I have 6 nonverbal students and two of them finally received their own PMC but the rest of the nonverbal students don't have it so their tongues are tied. As of today, I am using my own iPad and using Proloquo2Go to communicate with my students especially who are nonverbal. If I get the iPad through this project, my students will get their voice and it will enhance my instruction.

My Project

If I get the iPad, it will provide voice to my nonverbal students. I can communicate through the Proloquo2Go and provide instruction. The app has about 14000 vocabularies with picture symbols and I can customize the vocabulary list that aligns with my lesson. Then my lesson will become interactive and my students will be more engaged in learning. Also, I can download many educational apps to teach phonics, grammar and reading in fun ways. And I can show them brainpop videos that goes wit my lesson (my class doesn't have a smartboard).

The impact of having the iPad will change the mode of communication in my class with my nonverbal students.

It will be innovative to most of my students who can't afford to have iPad or computers at home. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated!
