My Students

My scholars are in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. I teach in a single classroom for students who have intense emotional needs. All students are attending a Redesign School in Cleveland, Ohio. Redesign Schools are the lowest 10-15% of schools in the district that call for immediate and dramatic action.

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty stricken school district, I see my scholars are faced with several challenges both inside and outside of the classroom.

They have entered my classroom far behind grade level and work hard each day to work to close the gap that stands in front of them. All of my scholars, as well as those in the entire school, qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. In spite of their challenges, my scholars come to school each day with a will to learn and a passion to become better.

My Project

Students will be able to conduct internet research for inquiry learning, make videos of each other and/or themselves for projects and presentations, help write class blogs, and participate in discussion forums with each other as well as students in other areas by using an iPad.

Giving low-income students the ability to use technology in the classroom daily is an investment in their futures and will have a lasting impact on how they view the world around them.

The stylus is a great way to allow the scholars to submit written assignments and jot down notes while they are researching all in one place.
