My Project
At IPA, we have a growing fine arts department. We like to focus on growing student artists and their own unique style. One of the best tools we use for this mission is a sketchbook. In a sketchbook, students are able to experiment with materials, plan out compositions for future art projects, and learn what their own unique artistic style looks like.
Sketchbooks are a great tool for developing artists because they allow the artist to work without the intense pressure of creating a finished artwork.
When students are working on their art projects, many will stress about making it perfect. A sketchbook becomes the students' safe space where mistakes can be celebrated and learned from. Many students in the past, have been happiest with how their sketchbook turns out over their completed art projects. Students also become attached to their sketchbooks and look forward to taking it home at the end of the semester.
Many students have not worked with art materials before taking their high school art classes. Using the sketchbook allows them to practice with the new materials before working on their larger art projects.
