Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very excited about reading, writing, and learning in general. They are excellent workers. My biggest challenge is teaching them to take ownership in their own learning, so that they can continue to teach themselves for the rest of their educational career.
Our school is a Title 1, intervention required, economically disadvantaged campus.
Our school is our family. Students work together in different grades throughout the day, motivating, encouraging, and teaching each other. We have many after school clubs taught by our highly invested teaching staff.
My Project
We are needing additional organization for our daily routines. Our letter work center needs a storage unit with easily accessible drawers. Our library needs more books that the students are excited to read and can learn something from. Our guided reading library needs improved organization. The students have asked for new big books, so that they can see the words when I'm reading to them on the carpet, and so they can read them during our Drop Everything and Read time, as well as center time. We also need poems for our poetry center where students are familiar with the words and rhythm, so that they may independently choose their poem and take ownership in their learning.
Our campus is greatly lacking in storage furniture.
This project being fully funded would allow us to be able to organize our library, poetry center, guided reading library, letter work center, and math center. My students should have an enjoyable learning environment, no matter if they are attending a Title 1 campus.
