I teach the ESOL friendly kindergarten classroom at my school. Of my 30 students, approximately half speak a 2nd language.
In the morning, we work on literacy. Our afternoons are filled with math, science, health and social studies.
My students are 5-6 year olds, who are eager to learn to read and write!
Our school is in an urban setting. We have a little over 1,000 students in our K-8 school.
Our school is a Title 1 building that offers free breakfast and lunch for our students.
The children in our school come to school each day excited to learn new things. They are respectful and polite.
Our school is very diverse. Within my kindergarten classroom, I have approximately 15 students who speak a first language other than English. Watching them learn the English language is one of the most gratifying experiences1
My Project
The requested iPads in my classroom would be shared with the other three kindergarten classrooms as well. We are fortunate enough to have four computers in our classroom, however, they are very out-of-date. We often experience network issues, random shutting down and other computer related problems. The use of the iPads would alleviate some of these issues!
The iPads would allow the students to use technology within the classroom. Literacy and math related apps would be downloaded for the students to use during center time and guided reading. Through the use of these iPads, children will learn their letters, letter sounds, sight words, reading comprehension, numbers, money, addition and subtraction, number stories, etc. With the technology constantly changing and expanding, the possibilities are endless!
With the ever-growing technological advances, it is important to have our children using the most current technology available.
The iPads would help drastically with their knowledge of all subject matters. My goal for my students is to create life-long learners and the iPads can help to do just that! Please consider donating to this classroom project!
