Invest in Our Students' Learning Environment: New Rug & Stools
Help me give my students a cozy, large rug they can all fit on comfortably during morning meeting, and the introduction of a new skill or concept instead of a cold, hard floor, please.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hi, I teach third grade in Cape Coral, Florida. Our students come from diverse locations around the world. They love to go to school because it's a chance to be with their friends whom they may not have seen all summer. Our PreK-8 school has approximately 800 students enrolled. It's challenging for our parent-teacher group to raise money to fund classroom extras with so few students participating in the fundraising efforts. Additionally, it is a low-income school, with approximately 50% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. Mid Cape Global students appreciate the extras and are always polite and gracious when they receive anything extra.
Currently, we do not have a rug in our classroom, and students sit on the cold, hard floor.
The large carpet will be placed in the front of the classroom, allowing us to utilize it during morning meetings, teach mini-lessons, or work in small groups. We would love to have a carpet to make the space more comfortable, along with stools to accompany our small group table, rather than having to move their desk seats every time called to meet for small group instruction or intervention time. I have also included a vacuum to keep our rug clean and help our custodial staff, so they will not need to do anything extra on their part. Students in the 3rd grade start to make connections between themselves and others in the world. This rug will be an ideal match to assist with those connections. Once I explain the meaning of continents, oceans, and other map features, I envision my students using their free time to investigate these items on the rug. Next, students will gain a clear picture of the world and understand how we are all interconnected. Please help my gathering areas look inviting!
