My students are inquisitive and kind. We have been online for almost the entire school year. They have developed friendships, and they help each other solve problems. They are good listeners, and they bring energy and enthusiasm to every activity.
I was afraid we would not be able to build community online, but I was wrong.
My students have built a strong community in the midst of great difficulty.
One student is particularly good at giving positive reinforcement to her peers. She often tells them that they did a good job or that she is happy to see them. She calls them friends and asks about them if they are late entering the group. Another student is the resident organizer. He often helps others take turns and encourages them to be patient.
My Project
I have two students who have returned to school for in person learning. I am afraid that my students who remain remote will have fewer opportunities to learn through hands on activities.
My students at school helped me make this list.
It includes the materials they enjoy the most. Kinetic sand is the material my students ask for first during choice time. I have a class of writers and artists. They need the tools of their trade. We are going to begin a project on buildings, and they need to be able to picture and build.
My hope is that all of my students can participate together and keep our strong community going.
