Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students live in a culturally diverse community, and it is identified as high poverty. The students in our classroom are aged 3-5 and identified as special needs. We service a variety of children with disabilities; including Autism, Down's Syndrome, Physically Impaired, Health Impaired and Speech & Language Impairment. My students attend school 4 days a week, 3 hours a day. All of the children in the class have Individualized Education Programs, which means that we focus on a range of needs. In addition to academics and self-help skills, I believe we are preparing these young children to be good citizens. I take great pride in teaching them how to learn, how to be a good friend and how to make the most of their individual potential.

My Project

Our modern society is advancing rapidly, and young children with special needs deserve the opportunity to participate in technology-based learning. At this time, my classroom is not equipped with technology like tablets or Promethean boards. Children at our school are introduced to tablets and big boards in Kindergarten. I would like the opportunity to share simple technology with my students in order to prepare them for Kindergarten.

Tablets are a standard tool in education, and I would like to put these tools into the hands of my students!

I would use the tablet and the portable speaker to introduce stories, math games, pre-writing practice and much more. When we introduce technology into the classroom at a young age, children learn responsibility, sharing, attention and tolerance through engagement and interaction with technology.
