Introduction to Lighting Design

Help me give my students a hands on Lighting Design experience. My students will hang and focus the LED Par Lights on the Lighting Stand with Truss. They will also experiment with designing lights for a performance.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am starting a new drama program at West Park Academy and created an Introduction to Tech Unit for my middle school students. Part of this unit includes lighting design. While we will be able to discuss and experiment with color, the LED Lights and Stand will give my students hands-on experience. They will practice hanging lights and then focusing on them for optimal visibility in the classroom. Using a lighting program, they will be able to experiment and create different looks; from using cool lights to create a low energy or sad mood to using warm lights to create a higher energy or happy scene.

My main goal for teaching my students about tech theatre and lighting design is to give them a sense of other jobs in the theatre outside of acting.

When I was in middle school, I took drama but we focused on acting. I want to give my students a broader sense of what is theatre. Through this unit, I will also be able to learn more about my students interests and start building a student run tech crew. This tech crew will help me run our performances; theatre, musical and dance.

My students are special because this will be their very first introduction to a drama class. They have had music and art but now they will have access to learn about theatre. I want to give them every opportunity to learn and grow as theatre artists. I want to spark and encourage interest not only in acting, but every area of the theatre community. Thank you for your support.
