My Project
The materials and supplies I am requesting for my students will assist in their emotional development. Creating a calm and safe space in the guidance office is mandatory when building rapport with parents and students. Also, this will be a safe space for open discussion on equity. For example, the table will assist in providing small group lessons. The "wobble stools" will assist in those students seeking movement in a small space. The fidgets and other tools will also be used to facilitate inclusive discussions.
The goals for this project are to grow more beneficial attractions in guidance and make sure students know that we do not just help when there is a "situation"; we also want to help with academics and community resources.
However, guidance has to feel like a place the students want to come. Therefore, these materials will assist in debunking the stigma.
What makes my students special is that once we get to know each other, it is easy to form those connections and make students comfortable enough to come see me. These students are also special because they are resilient. Most of the students deal with other community factors that they cannot necessarily change, but they come to school giving it their best anyway.
