This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am building a classroom library for the the majority of students who come into my classroom having never even opened a book or read one in its entirety.

Many students tend to feel overwhelmed and anxious about their interactions with books, especially if they are a part of the overwhelming 50% who are ESL, Special Education, Modified and 504 population.

As an English teacher, my goal is to help my students eliminate their fear of reading and gently challenge them to grow and expand their minds beyond the level they may be at through their reading of a diversity of books and authors.

Through their exposure and eventual love for the classics, the expansion of their minds will demonstrate to these students that these labels do not have to define them and that it is through literature that their brains can form new connections and ways of comprehending not only the inner worlds of these authors but the world around them as well. Reading is the key to their eventual success in life!

These books will ignite their curiosity and provide a comfortable and judgement-free classroom environment that meets them on their level of reading, no matter where they are.
