My students need a HP multifunction printer in our classroom to make their books and individual assignments. They need ink cartridges to keep the printer operable. They need cardstock for durability of their books and the printer paper to produce the pages for their books.
I teach a first grade class in an inner city area. The majority of the students are at poverty level and have no computers at their homes. There is no library near our school to access for computers. Our school has no funds to purchase new computers or printers for the classroom.
We had a major flood caused by a broken water pipe in the ceiling last May and lost a lot of classroom materials that were bought by individual teachers. We are in the process of replacing books and other needed materials and can't buy printers at this time. We have an old computer in our class that a friend donated to us. It doesn't have a printer with it. We would like to be able to produce individual books on the computer as well as print off pictures and other materials from the computer. My class has expressed an interest in using the Internet to find information on animals. With a printer they can print off pictures from the net as well as fact sheets so that they can share time on the computer. I feel that the printer will be a big asset in our class because we will be able to collect more information from multiple sources and print pictures and fact sheets to help us create individual books and reports.
With the resources that I requested , the children will be able to create reports with color pictures, more details, and durable covers. They will be able to share our limited computer time by reproducing information that they want to save and read over later. The printer will help them with diagrams and graphic organizers. I think that this will enable more students to explore an otherwise limited resource.
The computer is a wonderful resource and all children should have access to it. With the help of donors like you my class will have a way to copy and reproduce images and facts that will help them share their interest and enthusiasm for learning with many other people. Thank you for caring about children.
