Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are often marginalized by typical education. They are the troublesome and energetic students that academic classroom teachers dread. As an interventionist, I can 'distract' students while we have in-depth conversations about academics, attendance and home-life.
In my room, I long to create a comfortable and safe space with lots to do.
Squishy bean bag chairs and pillows are much more relaxing than typical hard plastic chairs. A room where fidgeting can happen with hand held toys and visual stimulation to release the energy they have been asked to control. A friendship bracelet kit will keep my creative students going for some time.
Colorful and labelled organizers will allow students to quickly find "something to do". Containers will hold art supplies, Legos, jigsaw puzzle pieces and puzzle/coloring books. There will also be places for materials to complete academic work such as pens or pencils and various types of paper. .
