This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My preschool students are children who are three to five years of age. My school is in sunny San Pedro, California. The children from San Pedro come to school each morning ready to learn and grow. There's never a dull moment in our class; my students are busy bees moving from one interest area to another. They're eager to learn, explore, engage and experiment with the instructional materials and centers I set up for them. Every single one of my students deserves a fair chance at having his or her potential nurtured and fully developed. My little ones have an insatiable curiosity and unique talents, that's why it's important for me to have a class with a variety of instructional materials to meet their educational needs and nurture their talents.
My Project
The animal puppets will be excellent tools for my students to use in the classroom to help them learn and grow in the areas of environmental science and the dramatic arts. Engaging in interactive puppet play will foster my student's language development, emotional development, social skills and environmental science awareness. As the children spend time in puppet play they will be able to express themselves while using their imagination to tell stories. My students will also learn positive behaviors such as cooperation with others, sharing, listening to others and helping others. They will also learn various wildlife animal names and facts and the importance of conserving their habitats. The children will have the opportunity to use the Drawing Chalk and White Drawing Paper to draw pictures of the animals and their habitats. With the Animals and Nature Poster Set, my students will have the opportunity to look at images of animals in their habitat. With the When I Grow Up STEM Series Archaeologist Kit my students will have the opportunity to step into the role of scientist by participating in a small scale dig using the shovel and rake to find items such as bones, plate pieces and fossils. The children will learn that an Archaeologist is a special scientist that discovers and collects the artifacts from people/civilizations who lived in the past. All of these materials will support extending scientific learning across all domains.
