Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are super awesome and unique. My English language learners are individuals whose development and personality is influenced by their cultural background and family values. Regardless of academic or socioeconomic struggles, they persevere to be the best they can be.
My English language learners are individuals who embrace who they are and love sharing their identity with peers.
They find joy in sharing and teaching about who they are because each student is unique in their own history and life experience.
My Project
Each and every book selected for this project represents cultures from around the world. My English language learners will use these books to learn about diverse cultures. The books, the rug, and the posters will serve as an encouragement for my ESL students that being ESL is not a deficit but an asset. These materials will support my English language learners become internationally minded and they will learn to embrace their own identity.
My students need books that mirror who they are as immigrant students.
My students need these books as windows to new perspectives and cultures around the world. The posters will be a constant reminder that being an immigrant and or English language learners is a privilege and not a deficit to hold them back from their dreams.
The rug will be a classroom tool they will rest on and at the same time be exposed to the world around us. My English language learners are hard working students who deserve the opportunities to fair and equity resources that encourage their heritage and promote their family values.
