I am the reading interventionist at a high-poverty school in White Center. I teach all grades, but am focusing specifically on my fifth grade readers.
My fifth grade after school readers are facing a lack of interesting reading material! The school does not have resources to purchase additional materials. These kids are capable of amazing reading achievement, we just need the materials!
My fifth graders stay after school twice a week to read with me in small groups and independently. What we need is a wide variety of materials that the kids are interested in and that they can relate to.
