This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the heart of San Francisco, TCS embarked on a pioneering journey to introduce Vietnamese language education, setting a precedent for language diversity within the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). Despite starting without a formal curriculum, the dedication and ingenuity of two Vietnamese teachers and TCS staff propelled the development of the Vietnamese Language Program, shaping a unique learning experience for students. The inception of the Vietnamese Language Program at TCS reflects the school's commitment to embracing cultural diversity, recognizes the growing of Vietnamese community in the Tenderloin neighborhood and gives students privilege of learning a new language.

Leveraging authentic materials, such as literature, music, and multimedia resources, teachers enhance students learning by using technology in teaching and engaging in lessons and practice activities.

The teachers have been applied the interactive technology tools such as the throwable Catchbox, or interactive apps such as WordWall, Quizizz and GimKit to encourage and promote students's learning and practice the language in effective and meaningful ways. Now, the Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) from this project will help students to immerse students in the sights and sounds of Vietnamese characters, practicing pronunciation and engage in writing complete sentences or sentence frames. With touch-sensitive screens, audio capabilities, and interactive features, IWBs offer a multisensory learning environment where students can engage with Vietnamese language materials through sight, sound, and touch. From tracing Vietnamese characters with their fingers to listening to audio recordings of native speakers, students benefit from a rich sensory experience that reinforces language skills and enhances comprehension.
