My students are of the age that they have never known life without a touch screen, an iPad, or a smart phone. They truly live in a technology driven world!
Our school is home to about 300 students in a high poverty, inner city neighborhood.
Our school is highly mobile with almost 20% of our students experiencing homelessness. Despite the challenges that our students face, they are incredibly resilient. The students that learn in my K-2 special education classroom all have low incidence disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome. Their vivacious personalities, zest for life, and boldness are a huge part of our school culture. They do not let developmental delays or poverty get in the way of their learning. I truly LOVE my job as their teacher and cannot imagine teaching a different group of children.
My Project
Our class has recently become acquainted with an interactive whiteboard. This piece of technology has truly changed our classroom! My students are very visual, experiential learners which makes an interactive whiteboard a perfect way for them to learn. As their teacher, I am now constantly making fun, engaging activities that are differentiated for my students' goals. The resources I am requesting are pre-made interactive whiteboard games from Lakeshore Learning. These games are fantastic - they are colorful, engaging, and hit so many important standards that my students are learning, such as letter identification, sight words, number sense, basic addition, and common vocabulary. The best part is: they are already made! My students need to get a stronger grasp on technology so that they can fully understand and participate in the way our world is going.
