This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever been unable to pay attention in class? My students experience this daily because of their various learning disabilities. They need technology that will engage them and allow them visual and kinesthetic learning opportunities.
I am privileged to teach 4th and 5th grade students with multiple disabilities in a self-contained classroom.
Our school is located in a low-income area with a majority of second language learners. My students are greatly challenged when attempting to access grade level curriculum. Many struggle to retain concepts and therefore perform far below grade level. While they are eager to learn new things, they need additional supports to access the core curriculum and meet grade level standards.
My Project
My students have special needs and learn best through kinesthetic and visual modalities. I am requesting a Mimio classroom bundle which will provide interactive opportunities throughout the day. The Mimio will engage my students in active learning, as they can physically manipulate words and concepts on the board. The tablet will help me engage students as I move around the room. They can add information on the tablet and it will show up on the board for everyone to see.
The document camera gives every student an opportunity to share their work with the rest of the class. When engaged in written assignments, they can participate in peer reviews more effectively. The Mimio Vote will give all students a voice by allowing them to respond to questions and lessons on a hand held device. As the teacher, I can immediately see who needs additional support and provide feedback on the spot. With these technology resources, my class will become entirely interactive!
Technology is constantly changing.
Our students need to be exposed to the various technological resources available that will aid and help them succeed in school. All students learn differently. I need to provide the resources that will help my students learn to the best of their individual abilities. This Mimio classroom bundle will provide them with multiple modalities in which to access core curriculum. Thank you for helping my students become more successful in school!
