My students need an Apple iPad to reinforce literacy, language, and math skills through interactive technology applications. They also need the Eureka vacuum, art supplies, manipulatives, and storytelling and dramatic play props to enhance their creativity, literacy, and fine motor skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are working on developing social skills, language skills, early math skills, literacy, and physical development skills that will help them set the foundation to transition to kindergarten. They attend a special day class that serves children 3-5 years old with a range of eligibilities from developmental delays, autism, and speech and language impairments. They come from different backgrounds and low income families.
My students have different abilities and face different challenges.
Many of my students are pre-verbal and lack social interaction skills and experiences. They come to school ready to learn new skills and excited to engage in new experiences every day. My students benefit from visuals, sensory stimulating experiences, manipulatives, technology, and literacy materials that help spark their interest and attention to help them learn new skills and build on their knowledge based on their abilities and interests.
My Project
Interactive technology is fun, engaging, and motivating for children. The iPad will be loaded with educational, interactive applications to go along with our Creative Curriculum investigations to reinforce learned concepts, practice language, turn-taking, and pre-academic skills within a theme. For example, learning about clothes, we can play a dress up interactive game labeling clothing pieces by playing dress up. We will use the dot markers to create arts and crafts as the children develop precision and fine motor skills by pressing on these fun markers. Literacy activities during our read-aloud center is a preferred activity where the children enjoy hands-on props to our stories. Goldilocks will be a hit! The storytelling glove will add life and interaction to all my felt stories.
Your generous donation will help me develop a strong foundation for children with special needs to thrive in a fun, clean, technology-rich environment.
The find the letter activity will help the children practice alphabet recognition and enhance their sensory and fine motor skills by using the tweezers or feeling the materials with their hands as they find the letters of the alphabet. They will love the addition to our people in our dramatic play area to enhance our play community by including people with adaptive equipment to foster diversity during play. Lastly, all these fun activities and learning must take place in a clean environment. The vacuum will ensure that our little ones play, sit, roll, and enjoy their learning experiences on dust free rugs!
