How fun...an interactive science notebook! I teach at an inner city school and have been proud to do so for 9 years. Most of my students receive free or reduced lunches and many are from other countries.

Most students do not come to school with supplies necessary for learning. However, they come almost everyday eager to learn and get involved. I see families out buying supplies for the upcoming year while I buy necessary supplies for my students.

I have done science notebooks for a few years and was re-inspired this summer while at an AVID training. The teacher taught us a fun and interactive way to gather science information. I ate it up and was inspired to step up on my science notebooks. This year, I want students to OWN their notebooks and all that goes into it, from the cover to the learning inside. I plan on having students gather pictures to create a collage on the cover of things that inspire them or are interesting science pictures. Then we will interact with our notebooks by taking notes in creative ways, using color and sticky notes. Thus, my students need mod-podge glue, colored sticky notes, highlighters, and colored paper to complete their interactive notebooks. I believe that students will be engaged in the creation of the notebook and all of the information in it and this will cause them to be more invested in the long term learning of science. We never know what simple act we do that will inspire our students to study science in college. My hope: this is the inspiration they need.

Your donation will allow me to take my science notebooks to the next step and encourage students to take ownership in the knowledge they put into it. My dream: for my students to become so attached to the notebook that they keep it for years to come. Much like I did with a notebook I completed in the 11th grade!
