Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand." Everyday in my class, I involve students in their learning, so they will understand the topic. This cart has supplies which allows students to become involved in their learning.

I teach at a charter school, where my students attend school from 7:15-5 pm.

My school is a Title One school and in the 8th grade, we have about 90% of students on free or reduced lunch. My students are mostly English Language Learners, who need a lot of visual cues. We use white boards and manipulatives, so every single student can master the objective for the day. Additionally, we have interactive science notebooks, so students aren't simply just taking notes, but actually interacting with the material. In order to do that, we use a lot of supplies daily like glue and colored pencils in order for them to master the lesson.

My Project

This cart has a lot of essentials for the start of the school year. The whiteboard markers and erasers will be used every day, so students are constantly receiving feedback on their work. The colored pencils will be used to help students create vivid pictures to go along with their notes. Colored pencils also will help the students code their notes in a way that will make the most sense for them to understand the topic. The pencil sharpener will be used to ensure students are able to use their colored pencils in class. White post it notes will help my students visualize the key points on the wall, so they are constantly reminded of the most important information for class. The caddies will help the students keep all of the classroom materials in a neat order on their desk. We have interactive notebooks and so we need a spot on our tables to keep our glue, markers, colored pencils, note cards and scissors. Currently, our desks are too cramped to fit all the materials.

These materials may seem like a hodgepodge; however, all of the materials are essential for class to run smoothly.

By helping to fund this project, you are helping students learn every day with the fewest interruptions for basic supplies.
