Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach third grade at a charter school in a low income community of Chicago. I have two special education students in my classroom.
My school believes in a well-rounded curriculum and therefore, science is a major part of the students' education. However, our resources are lacking, which makes it hard to teach the students the science concepts. My students are active, curious learners who respond positively to engaging lessons. Without these desired materials, I feel my students will not get the positive science experience that they deserve.
Throughout the year, I will be teaching about the solar system and human body, as well as a unit about animals and insects. The resources I need are interactive and hands-on games and activities, including puzzles, models, books and more. For example, the solar system puzzle will help my spatial and visual learners. The human body models will give the students a concrete visual to learn from. The interactive fact finders will keep my students enthralled with each topic. Without these materials, my students will not have the opportunity to have an engaging science experience.
You will make it possible for my students to feel like the scientists they deserve to be. They will feel proud and special to have such quality materials and their attention to science will be heightened.
