Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This is a class of all boys with special needs. They all work hard each day and enjoy learning. They like interaction and are easily engaged. They are great with sharing what they know about the subject at hand. They are courageous in answering questions and initiating thoughts. They are curious and enthusiastic. So far we have read books about animals and the concept of importance. I have already seen these sorts of activities helps them to build their vocabulary.

My Project

I will be more efficiently and effectively able to facilitate interactive read-alouds with my students because the Elmo document camera will show the text in a format I can easily see, so I will no longer need to copy text onto chart paper in order to read it to the group. It will allow me to transition from page to page uninterrupted by the need to flip or tear pages or have someone else do this. The display on the screen will be much more legible than handwriting, and the children can optimize their opportunity by more fully participating in the learning process rather than in the logistical process of holding pads of chart paper and books.
