My Students

I teach at a high school in suburbia that is NOT ethnically diverse. Students are involved in many activities outside of school, and tend to be high achieving. Parents push their students to perform well, and many have learned how to "jump through the hoops." Covid has made it difficult for students to keep up when they are absent because of Covid or Quarantining.

My focus is teaching historical empathy.

My students have not had very many experiences outside of their community, so I feel it is very important to teach them that the world looks different. With World History and Art History students, I try to expose them to cultures outside their own. I also teach women's studies, and we have been identifying the development of the patriarchy, and how they can impact the future. Government students are learning how to get involved in the political process. In each class, students have benefitted from opportunities to look outside of their own world.

My Project

Students use these notebooks to keep track of all their homework and class notes. By the end of the class, they have created their own review books for the AP Exam. Canvas helps students keep track of assignments and learning, and the notebook keeps it all in one place for frequent review. While digital options are available, students appreciate having a physical copy of notes, as well as a place to practice their writing that is all in one place. The colored pens have helped student with organization - as they review and annotate their notes to help them retain their learning.

Interactive Notebooks have been an effective tool for students to keep track of their learning -both at home and in the classroom.

Students have found the organization tool, as well as the interaction, beneficial to the preparation for the exam.
