Interactive Notebooks for 2nd Semester!

My students need notebooks and glue to create interactive math notebooks.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Abby's classroom raised $249

My Students

Students used to just copy notes in my classroom...without having any idea of what was actually happening. Now, students respond and think in their notebooks! The notebook is our textbook, and students are often heard citing, "That's on Page 53!"

JBS is a transfer high school.

This means that we accept students who for a variety of reasons were not successful in their previous high school. Many of my students have taken the same math class a few times...and failed. Students feel unsuccessful at math and unsure of themselves in sharing answers. In my classroom, students are encouraged to think creatively. Strategies, as opposed to answer-getting, are encouraged. Students have voice as I design curriculum that meets their math needs and is relevant.

My Project

The interactive notebook is a place to store not only information, but also reflections and work. It becomes a communication tool between students and students as well as the teacher and students. With the notebook, I have another way to understand how students are thinking about math which means I can design better lessons. Students have a USEABLE resource that they have created and understand. Students will glue various pieces into their notebook. They sort "functions" and "not functions," glue them into the notebook, and write about how they knew something was a function. They create a concept map using given vocabulary, glue them into the notebook, and write the connection between the concepts. They match representations (graph, table, equation), glue into the notebook, and explore the connection between the representations. The notebook is not a place to copy notes, but a space to learn.

In many cases, my students cannot afford their own notebook.

Students have the right to have the appropriate supplies to learn. By giving students the supplies they need, one obstacle between my students and graduation is eliminated.
