Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an extraordinary group of middle school students in the Bronx. I believe that my students and all students have so much potential and I want to use that to enhance their future both inside and out of education. My students are very diverse both in their variety of cultures, their needs and their learning styles which makes my job the best in the world.

My students constantly keep me on my toes and their curious minds teach me something new every day.

Most of my students are living in poverty; most of my students have insecure housing; most of my students are either immigrants or first-generation Americans; and most of my students have experienced trauma in their lives; all of my students are exceptional individuals who show up each and every day, ready to learn.

My Project

This year my students will be creating science interactive notebooks. On each table students will have supplies like scissors, glue, highlighters, colored pencils and 4-colored pens so their interactive notebooks can be as organized and color coated. For example using the Bright Colored Paper, all rubrics of the school year will be orange, all of the reference pages will be green, all of the posters will be yellow, etc. Hopefully the color coating paper will allow students to categorize their notes easily and increase their comprehension. Additionally, when a student is absent all of the print outs for their notebook will be filed using the hanging file folders so students can easily access them and catch up themselves. These materials will make a difference in my students learning because interactive notebooks allow you to process information to improve your understanding. They also help you learn new ideas by having you use several types of writing and graphics to record them. Writing or reading notes does not mean you have learned the information. You must actively do something with information before you really understand it.
