Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We're hoping to infuse the classroom with basic supplies and interactive math materials to bring math alive and make it fun. The basic supplies will allow the classroom to run smoothly and I'm sure these math materials will draw students in and help them develop of love of math.
My students are eager third graders.
The vast majority are growing up below the poverty line. Our school district has had massive budget cuts this year. We now have no specialist teachers for art, gym, music, etc....We initially had over 1,000 educational positions cut from our budget. About 70 positions were just reinstated, so we could lower class size. I was one of the teachers reinstated after school began. As such, I'm working hard to get things in order as quickly as I can. You can do so much to help us by supporting this project.
My Project
Students thrive when they are in a learning environment that has rich learning experiences. These math materials will help our classroom be just that type of learning environment. With the award winning Dino Tracks Place Value Game, students will develop a deeper understanding of place value. This will make addition and subtraction with regrouping much easier to grasp. The project also includes games for practicing math facts, i.e., +, -, x, and division. Learning how to quickly add, subtract, multiply, and divide is an expectation of all 3rd graders. These games, such as Math Whiz, Snap it Up, and the Digitz game will help students practice those facts in an engaging manner.
The other portion of this project is all about basic supplies: copy paper, dry erase markers, film for the overhead projector, ink to print vocabulary cards, books, and more. Your support will help me print up books for students to use during their nightly reading homework, and so much more!
These supplies will be used throughout our day in all subjects.
For example, the dry erase markers will be used to create bar graphs, help us see the phonics/patterns in words, demonstrate writing skills, allow students to share their thinking for the class on our class easel and on the individual dry erase board. I wish I had room to list more of the vital learning opportunities you will be bringing to our class by supporting this project. Thank you so much for considering supporting us!
