This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching in a low-income/high-poverty school district provides many challenges. The students in my classroom come from very diverse backgrounds but they have one thing in common...their thirst for learning in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment. They desire an environment that provides ample opportunities for active learning to take place while they are challenged and explore through the use of hands-on activities.
We provide rigorous instruction that enables our children to achieve academic excellence while building the social and emotional skills needed to become well-rounded individuals.
My goal is to offer my students experiences that they would not ordinarily be exposed to. I strive to provide them with hands-on materials that will inspire them to interact, investigate and explore. They love books, technology, and manipulating the environment through their senses. Together we make learning fun and successful.
My Project
As we continue to navigate through our new normal my young students and I yearn for a variety of ways to enhance interactive learning using limited materials.
I strive to provide ideas and lessons that will inspire them to safely interact, investigate and explore at school.
The use of the math manipulatives along with the dry erase pockets and playdough will assist me in reaching my individual students returning to school during these trying times. Hands-on materials are a must with our preschool students as we encourage the development of their fine motor skills, oral language skills as well as their mathematical logical reasoning skills.
The use of magnet shapes and counters will allow our students to develop higher-order thinking and language skills while problem solving. These materials will ensure that each child has the appropriate learning tools to succeed in preschool.
