Interactive Lessons Through Distance Learning

My Students

I teach 30 low-income five-year-old kindergarten students at a public school in an urban school district. All of the students who attend my school receive free breakfast and lunch on a daily basis. Many of the students I work with are exposed to extreme amounts of violence, experience traumatic events, and have families who are unable to support them financially. My students lack the materials they need to be successful in the classroom, especially with our school district's tight budget.

Though a majority of students come to school without basic supplies and materials, they know that they are supported and cared for daily when they enter my classroom.

I strive to make learning engaging and meaningful to foster lifelong learners. My students are a constant reminder of my passion for teaching young children. I spend a large amount of time planning instruction to meet each students' individual needs, while creating a fun and enjoyable learning experience. My students appreciate every donation our classroom receives and everything that comes into our classroom is utilized to its fullest potential. The donations we receive make a tremendous, positive impact on their academic achievement. Your support of children's education ensures their future success.

My Project

As we prepare for our upcoming virtual school year, I want to provide students with a fun and interactive learning experience. Even though we are not yet able to come together in person, we can continue to grow and learn from a distance.

Due to a lack of resources in students' home lives, many students do not have the tools or materials they need at home to master new kindergarten content.

Since many students do not have basic supplies during distance learning, I have looked into using an interactive, digital approach for engaging students in literacy lessons. I am requesting a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to purchase digital reading comprehension activities that can be used on Seesaw, our distance learning platform, for the fall school year. The digital reading activities by Deanna Jump allow students to digitally retell stories we will read in class and complete independent reading responses. The activities are interactive and fun for students to use. Since the activities and responses are differentiated and independent, it allows students to demonstrate their understanding and level of comprehension. The digital activities by Deanna Jump directly connect to the lessons I will be teaching over our daily online video meetings.
