My Students

I work with students who have mild to high functioning autism, ranging from second through fifth grade.

In working with this population, every student with Autism is different; you have to find out their likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. There needs to be consistency and structured activities that are predictable. Providing an environment that contains visual supports allows the students to be aware of the expectations and routines throughout the day. Students with autism also tend to have difficulty with social and communication development, which may cause inappropriate behaviors or interactions among their peers and environment. Not being able to effectively express their concerns or deal with unexpected changes results in rising anxiety causing those students to stop functioning. My students attend a Title 1 public K-5 school where the students are mainstreamed within the general education classes for certain subjects throughout the day.

My Project

Now that my students have been given the opportunity in receiving two iPod Touches in the classroom, my student individual needs will be met, allowing them to be motivated, interested, and excited to learn. The use of the iPods will be used to reteach and practice skills presented within the curriculum. My students will be able to become engaged in advanced technology as they interact with a huge variety of educational apps that not only reinforces subject matter but gives them a sense of self-initiation in their learning. Benefiting and gaining knowledge through the use of iPods; durability, protective cases, and charging docks are missing in the classroom environment. To ensure the prolonged usage for years to come and predictable reliability, these items are necessary in continuing to reach interest and learning through this mode of instruction. I am requesting 2 cases, 2 shields, and 2 charging docks for my students to use.

The curriculum has become more accessible and interesting to my students where they will become engaged and excited in the learning process.

In allowing this drive to continue in my students; protective cases, screen guards, and charging docks for the iPod Touches are needed in order to ensure usage throughout the academic school year.
