My Students

I have 24 amazing second grade students.
My beautiful students come from high need areas. A good percentage of my students come from families in which poverty is highly relevant. They live in environments that include housing projects, shelters and foster homes. Approximately half of my students have special needs and they mainly understand concepts taught in the classroom through a variety of activities that include games and manipulatives.
My Project
A good percentage of my students come to my classroom with immature skills that limit their ability to master grade level material. In order to provide my students with interactive and engaging opportunities to learn the new material presented to them, I have to constantly look for high interest games and hands-on activities. Being able to provide my students with interactive centers would give them an opportunity to have fun while learning, practicing their newly acquired skills and communicating with their peers.
In addition, these centers would be highly beneficial for my special needs students. It would give them concrete activities which most of them need – especially if they have slow processing issues.

This will prepare them for their great next step in their educational journey as they get ready to enter what is called the testing grades. Also, they will be able to make real life connections to the concepts that they will learn in the classroom while having fun learning.
