This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the absolute pleasure of providing my students with their first impression of “school”. My students are economically and financially challenged and for majority of them the classroom and the experiences they have is their safe place. A safe place to learn and a safe place to be, while having hands on interactive fun and learning at the same time. Science is a subject that should have more time incorporated into the schedule because it incorporates so many skills needed from other core subjects. Having fun material’s that that can be embedded in our daily center time routine will ensure that my students understand that there isn’t just a set time, that learning takes place all day! Having light tablets in our classroom will allow my students to engage with everyday objects from a different perspective sparking conversations that will enhance their oral language and social skills which is so beneficial for Prek students. Gaining these skills will set them up for success as they move along their academic journey. My students come in barely having social skills or vocabulary and this is a great item to enhance their learning.

Having items such as the magnifying glasses, glass specimens, and a terrarium available will help them understand the meaning of exploration and observation while asking prominent questions that allows for them to think on a higher level.

All of the items were chosen for a specific purpose and can be used by students in many different subjects such as science, mathematics, reading, and writing while working on their fine motor skills which is so important with my fabulous little learners. My Prek students are so amazing because they’re not afraid of mistakes, and they take in learning with their arms wide open!
