Interactive Easel for 2nd Grade Dual-Language in Atx
Help me give my students an interactive easel! We will gather on the carpet for lessons, morning meeting and small group instruction. Students will easily participate in the lesson when they can see and reach the easel themselves.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A core part of my teaching philosophy is that students need to interact with the material and be involved in the lesson.
Gathering together on the carpet for instruction and community building is an essential component to learning and engagement.
With this easel, students will be able to see and reach the content, allowing them to fully engage with the lessons.
Because my students are learning two different languages, creating charts together is essential to understanding content. With a teaching easel, I will hang large chart paper for all the kids to easily see and interact with. We will co-create charts on the easel around phonics rules or math concepts with pictures and words. Students will be able to come up to the easel and add their ideas to our charts. Later, we will put these charts on the walls around the room for students to refer to. An easy-to-see and easy-to-use easel will help students stay engaged during lessons and will be used for every subject: Math, Spanish Language Arts, Science, and English Language Arts. I will also be able to use the whiteboard to write daily messages to my students; reading these daily messages together helps their fluency and builds classroom community.
About 40% of our students are from low-income backgrounds, but we receive no federal Title 1 funding. That means, that in a state where education is consistently underfunded, we are working with a limited budget. My administration has been working so hard to get the materials we all need, but unfortunately, this is not within the budget.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
