My students love interactive learning games on the computer for center time. These devices will encourage students to self-direct their learning and be an active participant in the learning process. Since no one learns in the same way or at the same pace, many of our educational websites (iReady, Teach Your Monster to Read, Word Force, Prodigy, etc) provide individualized instruction for all. Students can learn at their own speed, review difficult concepts or skip ahead as needed.
Using technology also facilitates peer collaboration; students can research and work on small group projects and/or listen to a story together.
We all know that technology is an integral part of how we work and live, every day. I hope to teach my first graders how to use technology to learn, research, collaborate, and solve problems.
