Help me give my students complete an integrative STEM project and create 3D topographic maps of different regions of New York so we need atlases and more.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, one of our goals at our school is to infuse STEM instruction across all content areas through a cross-curricular, integrative approach. My students will be learning about the earth's features in science, New York's geography in social studies, writing informational pieces, reading nonfiction texts, and studying multiplication. These concepts will all come together in a project in which they will research one specific region of New York, become experts on the state's geography and geology and write informational reports, create to-scale 3D topographic maps of the physical features, and code LEGO robots to move about the maps.
Please support my students and me in securing nonfiction books for the research as well as materials for the visual art portion of the project, including plaster of Paris and trifold boards.
The materials for this project include books on New York's geography and geology, including the rocks and earth features found in our state, as well as visual arts materials that will be integrated into our STEM project to create topographic maps.
