My Students
Have you ever struggled reading books? If so, you probably struggled with science and social studies in middle school. My students are special education students reading and writing at least 3 grade levels below their typical peers. This struggle makes it tough for them in their other classes.
My students are in grades 6-8 and are in a reading and writing intervention class in a low income school.
Most of my students are on free or reduced lunch. They are struggling readers who struggle in their other core classes. Since Science and Social Studies are so enriched with reading at grade level, my students really struggle.
My Project
My students will be using the IPADs to help with their reading and writing. We will not only use them in our reading/writing intervention class as part of instruction, but my students will use them during their Science and Social Studies class to help take notes, look up vocabulary words to help them understand, and more. I will also be adding many books to the IPADs and allowing the students to read or be read to some of their favorite stories throughout the school day.
This project is important to me because I was once a struggling reader.
I had that one teacher that showed me some different techniques which allowed me to have a love for reading. I too want my students to share the same passion I have for reading. I also want my special needs students to be successful in other classes. Thank you for your consideration and donation.
