This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students that I serve are inquisitive, interested, and needy for information. Being in an underserved community, they are no afforded the opportunities that most students have to have a wealth of resources such as technology at home and in the classroom.
Our school community is small and close knit.
Outside of our school community, there is poverty, single parent or grandparent households, and crime. Our school serves more than for education but for life skills to allow them to compete in a global market
My Project
Through the integration of reading and writing, my students will be able to demonstrate their learning using the resources this project will provide. With a combination of struggling readers to advanced readers, as well as differences in learning styles, technology will provide multi-modal ways to reach all learners and achieve mastery. These resources will be predominantly used for a middle school journalism class.
Through programs such as Aurusma, Nearpod, Animoto, Microsoft Sway to name a few are programs that will benefit our reading, writing, speaking, and listening environment.
Using IPads and chromebooks, students can collaborate in an online learning environment such as with Padlet to respond to writing or peer edit. Using blogs they develop themselves, we can develop argumentative writing skills. Also having the sharing capabilities through the Apple TV, we can easily share and model what students are working on in real- time.
The texts (novels) requested can assist students to dig deeper into relevant topics that affect them and through the readings and writing assignments, they can be enlightened and develop opinions to write about in our school newspaper, website, or video delivery.
Technology, in addition to literacy savvyness, will also allow my students to be competitive once they are in high school and eventually lead to career and college readiness. Technology will help them analyze information though different mediums, and then create new information to share through different journalistic mediums. i.e school newspaper and video.
