This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I serve Gifted and Talented students in a highly diverse, low-income district. The students come from many different backgrounds and a majority of our students speak a second language. Our students come from supportive families who want the best for their kids but often do not have the resources they need to assist them. These students are focused and excited to learn.

Gifted students are tomorrow's leaders, inventors, problem-solvers and creators!

Providing them with opportunities to think critically and collaborate is essential for their success while providing them more opportunities to be more college and career ready!

My Project

As a gifted instructor, I have been shocked that my students cannot read or write in cursive. This means that a majority of my students cannot decipher historical primary resources such as The Declaration of Independence and have to rely on others to interpret the writing for them. They are the brightest minds in our districts and will be learning how to read and write in cursive through this hands-on class dedicated to the arts while intertwining economics standards.

Students will be instructed on cursive and calligraphy writing so they may better read primary resources and utilize the techniques themselves in the real world through their business models.

After studying these writing styles and engaging in watercolor and rock-painting units they will then prepare to share their talents with their community. Utilizing the art resources, each team will create a Christmas product to create and sell in our classroom Christmas Pop-Up Shop. Students will determine their business plans, establish their markets, product pricing, and keep track of their profits to reinvest back into their businesses. This fun and engaging lesson plan will help my student's academically, but also give them a basic understanding of the economic principles: rationality, costs, benefits, incentives, and marginal analysis.
